Dr. des. Ina Jessen, Of Conservation and Reconstruction. Visit to the mould room in Hamburg Harvestehude

16.1.2020

After the demolition of the Schimmelmuseum in 2004, what happened to the objects that were created there, especially under the direction of Dieter Roth and his son Björn Roth? The pavilion in Hamburg Harvestehude, which was once part of a separate museum architecture, houses these objects in a separate room; invisible to the non-knowing world. But is this place intended as a continuation of the iconic Schimmelmuseum and should it be understood as such? What role do restorative aspects play in the context, what art-historical and institutional-critical questions follow on from this, is the subject of the lecture in the Schimmelraum.
